Characters FAQ
As well as the main characters of Tessa, The Coin Dragon and Angel here is where questions are answered on supporting characters.

Did you say The Coin Dragon changes sizes?

Written by Kay Patterson

Yes! The Coin Dragon if you ignore him simply gets bigger. If you face The Coin Dragon he will become a manageable size and any damage he is able to cause whilst being big is not present. The simple act of facing up to The Coin Dragon will help to make him more manageable but you do need tools or weapons and sometimes help to be able to do it.

Angel helps Tessa first face The Coin Dragon when she is wanting to leave the carriage and help instruct her in the weapons to use to get The Coin Dragon under control.

How does the Coin Dragon cause the people he is attacking any damage?

Written by Kay Patterson

The Coin Dragon is capable of damaging those he attacks in several ways.

The Coin Dragon's presence by itself can be a totally daunting experience. The dread caused by him being near can be enough to cripple with fear. However The Coin Dragon actively uses fear to attack. If he has decided to make an attempt at your destruction, then threats will be issued that only you can hear. These threats regard your security, development, safety and offer to destroy anything you have worked hard to put together.  The Coin Dragon does not offer to simply destroy you by death, instead it is by steadilyoffering to remove all the things you think you need to survive or secure your own and families futures.

The Coin Dragon represents the whole debt machinery - bad debts can control a life rather than a lifetsyle being used to help deal with a bad debt. More often than not a bad debt has arisen as a situation has been ignored or not tackled quicly enough. In the same wayThe Coin Dragon is mad more dangerous if not dealt with and faced.

The Coin Dragon will also blast you with waves of exhaustion - exhasution as crippling and time consuming as working every hour available in order to meet debts - debt that never appear to reduce or become manageable.

The Coin Dragon in his attacks also steals time from you, time you had intended and planned to use attending to happier tasks.

These are the methods that the Coin Dragon uses to cause staggeringly disabling depression, fear and exhaustion.

Why didn't Tessa get off the train when she had escaped?

Written by Kay Patterson

Tessa remained in the carriage as she was afraid and exhausted. Also she was not sure where she was. The Coin Dragon. The Coin Dragon had also removed the carriage from the track and had carried it to where it ends up in Zainad. Tessa was very aware of The Coin Dragon's presence and felt more secure in the carraige despite it not actully offering any real security.

Tessa knows the Coin Dragon gets bigger when ignored but is not able to find the courage to face him so he continues to grow while she hides in the carriage.

Why is Angel a bird?

Written by Kay Patterson

Angel is a bird because Angel was a bird when I had some counselling.

Let me explain better.

When I originally started to think about the Railway Carriage concept I was working with a coach quite closely, to help me focus on some areas in my life. This was done over the phone.

Throughout the conversations I could hear a bird in th background twittering and squawking and generally butting in and carrying on.

I joked at that point that perhaps it was he who was really doing the work. I asked what the bird in the background was called and what he looked like and I ws told - Angel - a green budgie - black marking on his wings.

So the mentor, coach, couselling character for Tessa could take his rightful place with her.

HOWEVER - I did try to make him budgie like but artistically he wasn't working very well and I was struggling so he evolved in nearly a year to be the Phoenix, Turkey, Cadbury Parrot hybrid bird that is Angel today.

Angel has his own tale to tell.

Why is Tessa called The Railway Child?

Written by Kay Patterson

Tessa was excluded from normal activity for some period of time in her life as she sheltered beyond the point of healing. She had required rest and healing as a result of injuries in battle. This absence from a fulfilling existence followed by beginning to come to terms with her new landscape and the magical surroundings of Zainad, has created a keen sense of wonder, joy, excitement and curiosity. So as well as the initial dread and fear there are also the more positive emotions present in such lavish porportions which is more usually found in children.

Furthermore Tessa herself is the product of the vehicle that got her to this point and the transport device in this case is a Railway Carriage.

Why is Tessa's carriage not a passenger carriage?

Written by Kay Patterson

Tessa did not board her train in an orderly fashion, in fact she was bundled on by someone (not yet named) and someone else (not yet named), two army driods that had helped her escape from Bourdette Miles. The carriage that Tessa is in is actually part of a labour/slave haulage for a species called Lassyabetev. Tessa was locked inside at the start of the journey which was with the captive Lassyabetev, however this was not a problem as first of all it was still preferable to the terrors in Bourdette Miles, also she is much smaller in build than Lassyabetev and she could squeeze through the bars of the cage carriage.

However when the Coin Dragon snatched Tessa's carriage from the tracks the main front panel was snapped off which meant the Lassyabetev escaped and Tessa was left in the carriage where it was landed in Zainad.
